Short version: we store what we need to run the chat and prevent abuse of the free messages, we keep it minimal, and we never sell it. Controller: Froschböleli, hello@dearly.chat.
What we store
- Your conversations with each character, plus a short automatic summary so he remembers earlier parts of a long chat.
- If you create an account: your account id and email (handled by our login provider, Clerk) and your plan and usage counters.
- Payments are handled by Stripe. We never see your card number.
Free-message protection (hashes only)
To stop people from claiming the free messages again and again, we store one-way keyed hashes (HMAC) of: a random id in a cookie, your IP address (shortened to the network for IPv6) combined with your browser family, a device fingerprint computed in your browser, and your normalised email address. We never store your raw IP address, fingerprint or (for this purpose) your email in readable form. IP-based records expire after 30 days of non-use. We also use Cloudflare Turnstile to check that a visitor is human before the first free message.
Who processes data for us
- Convex (database), Vercel (hosting), Clerk (accounts), Stripe (payments), Cloudflare (bot check).
- OpenRouter and the model provider it routes to, to generate replies; ElevenLabs, to turn replies into voice when you tap play.
Your messages are sent to these AI providers only to generate the reply. We don't use your chats for advertising.
Cookies
One essential cookie keeps your anonymous chat and free-message count; the login provider sets its own essential cookies when you sign in. No advertising cookies.
Your rights
You can ask us for a copy of your data or to delete your account and conversations at any time by emailing hello@dearly.chat. Depending on where you live (e.g. EU/UK/Switzerland, California) you may have further rights, including to complain to your data protection authority.
